AI Engine has had a built-in MCP server since April 2025 (version 2.7.7), about two months before the WordPress team started its own MCP Adapter. That is how Claude, ChatGPT and other AI agents can work on your site directly.

Its chatbots use your own API keys, so nothing sits between your site and the AI provider, and nobody takes a cut. Its MCP server needs no key at all: Claude and ChatGPT use the plan you already have.

The onboarding process is simple and fast. The knowledge base support is also helpful. I have n8n self-host, but using AI Engine with preset features is enough and faster to enhance WordPress site with AI capabilities.
