How Media File Renamer works
WordPress keeps whatever filename your camera or phone gave a photo. IMG_4471.jpg tells Google nothing, tells a screen reader nothing, and tells you nothing when you are hunting for it two years later in a library of eight thousand files.
Media File Renamer fixes the name and everything attached to it. Rename a file and the plugin rewrites every reference to it across your posts, pages and metadata, so nothing breaks. It handles the awkward cases too: retina and WebP variants, the re-scaled originals WordPress has generated since 5.3, PDF thumbnails, and UTF-8 filenames.
The AI Vision option goes further than tidying. It looks at the image itself and proposes a filename that describes what is actually in the picture, then offers to fill in the Title, ALT text, caption and description to match. That turns a renaming tool into an accessibility and SEO pass, done in bulk rather than one attachment at a time.
Work through your library however suits you: filter by Pending, Never Renamed or Locked, rename one file at a time while you build trust, or run the whole library at once. The lock system exists for the files you have already named deliberately, and can auto-lock anything after a rename so it is never touched again.
Back up first, and rename a few files before you rename eight thousand. Some page builders store image references in encrypted or encoded form, which no plugin can rewrite. If a reference does go stale, clear your cache first, and the Undo feature will put the original filenames back.

Cherry on top!
A must-have add-on the Meow set of tools. There’s enough work as it is, now you can put file renaming on autopilot. More time for drinking beer too.
Seriously impressive tool
Like everything this developer does, nothing here has been left to chance. Providing the user takes necessary precautions and the trouble to understand what he is doing (indispensable with any powerful tool), this plugin can be used to tidy up image file names consistently and reliably, a task that is notoriously difficult to achieve.
Makes a tedious task a breeze
The best I’ve used so far to rename files with more descriptive names. The free version does a great job even if it’s limited to using the media title.
Saving me so much time!
I was having headache of having bad names on the file names that uploaded in my websites, and this was keep me frustrated because I need to rename every single time. But, with this problem, I found that this plugin saving me so much time because I don’t need to care the filename anymore, I can just upload my images and media file renamed will do its job!
